Our "baby" turns 4

This past week has been bitter sweet. Our "baby" turned 4 on February 23. It's been hitting me hard- there is no more baby. While I am happy to be past the middle of the night feedings, the diapers, and all the pesky baby phases; I realize I will never have that little tiny baby to  nuzzle again. (Lucky for me JP is still a cuddlier!)

I just continue to realize how quickly this parenting gig goes by, but I'm so happy that we have two healthy and thriving kids who are growing big and strong. So here is their updates...

JP is 38 1/2 inches (which I think is  closes to accurate. With his limb difference it's always been hard to get his height) and weighs in at 34 1/2lbs. He has had an interesting year, but has done so well with all of what being 3 was for him-surgery for lengthening, ex-fix, casts,  school, etc.

JP had a great birthday with 3 celebrations.  On his actual day, he got to spend time with Mommy and Daddy. We played with all his new presents, went to the movies/out to lunch, and then his favorite part- we sang Happy Birthday and he got to have ice cream and a brownie. The next day he celebrated with his school friends and they sang to him too! Then this weekend he got to celebrate with his grandparents, aunts &uncles, and cousins, with more presents, singing and cake!!

When you're 4 and really into Super Heroes and Star Wars it's very hard to pick a theme. So we did a combination of the two with Batman coming out strong. His gifts also centered around all this as well. It was so cute how excited he was this year about his "day".

And school- he's doing so well there too! We got a progress report and had a parent teacher conference about a month ago. The said he's doing great with learning, following the rules and participating (phew),  and socializing with his peers.  They also said that he has a great sense of humor and makes the teachers all laugh, so a little comedian we're raising- lol!

On the medical side, he's been doing well too. The last year has not held him back. He's active and climbing and getting into trouble all the time. He's in physical therapy twice a week still, where we continue to work on balance, range of motion, hip and leg strength. He goes back to his doctor in April, where Mommy will come with a list of questions, so stay tuned about what's next for his journey in Fibula Hemimelia.

Aiden is 47 1/2 inches and weighs in at 52lbs. He enjoying being 7 and a1st grader. This coming week is big because it's his turn to be Star of the Week, where each day there is segment all about him. He's so excited to share special things about himself with his class. Aiden is also looking forward to Mommy coming in to read to his class and Daddy going in for lunch one day.

Aiiden is doing amazing in school. We had his conference a few weeks ago and his teacher was so complimentary of what a great kid he is. She said he just has such a love for learning, which we always knew, but we are glad it hasn't change! He now reads to his brother, as well as started reading chapter books and it's just so amazing to see how he's growing into a big boy!

Aiden claims his favorite class is gym, but he seems to thrive more with math and reading- lol. He still very into soccer and has played all summer and winter. He would like to do swimming and baseball this spring.

This past weekend he also got to see his first "big kid" movie with Daddy- Star Wars: The Force Awakens. He really likes the movie and couldn't wait to tell me all about the "shocking" stuff that happen (good thing I had already saw it).

On the medical side for him, his nut allergies are still in full swing.  So he still doesn't get to know the joy of peanut butter. We will have him tested again this summer, but I don't see much of a change from two years ago. Aiden hasn't outgrown his reactive airway disease either, so colds bring on respiratory issues and inhaler treatments, but I'm hoping for no hospital stays in 2016!

So that's the updates on our Babies. More and more  I realize (and get sad) that as long as the days are now, the years will be gone in a blink and they'll be out on their own.  For now, we are just going to enjoy this school age and more independent stage.
