Jonathan just had his 1 yr check up and weights in at 20lbs 9 oz. His vocabulary continues to explode and the words he says become clearer each day. His little personality is coming out and he knows what exactly what he wants and isn't afraid to express it. At times I'm overwhelmed at what a little amazing boy this baby is becoming (and others am frustrated like any other parent- LOL).
We continue to struggle what doctor/hospital to go with for Jonathan, but feel fortunate to have 2 great doctors so close that are familiar with his condition. Both surgeons feel it's best to start Jonathan's journey/first surgery by 18 months, which he'll be in August. So what's a parent to do...book 2 surgeries! While we are still weighing our options, it's best to at least book the surgery with each doctor and cancel one of them later. So in August, Jonathan will undergo a "super ankle" (reconstruction of his ankle) and tibia straight (basically breaking and resetting his shin bone which was born with a curve) either on August 9th or August 21st. I ask that you continue to keep us in your thoughts and prayers as this seems like the most important decision of our life, but also we need to prepare for our soon to be new "normal" after his surgery. Jonathan will have a external fixator for several months.
Jonathan also go new shoes! He still has his AFO (ankle-foot orthodic/brace), but as he has continue to grow, there was a 2 cm difference with his old sneakers. So he got a lift to help him "even out". JP has adjust well to the shoe/lift and continues to move around furniture. And I really think they're just so stinking cute!
Jonathans continue to grasp cruising and walking. We try to hold his hands to help him move and encourage him to take steps from object to object. Jonathan did take two steps by himself moving from Keith to me one day before falling down- so he's slowly getting in. His physical therapist brought a walker for us to borrow to help him get the feeling of walking. The walker is used the opposite of which one would think. The support bar is behind him, so that he can learn to stand up straight, instead of leaning forward. Jonathan doesn't have a lot of interest, but we're trying.
Aiden had his 4 yr check up and he's doing very well! He weighs in at 37lbs and the doctor thought cognitively is doing amazing. He's still loves school and enjoys learning new things.
He's now focused on cutting/using scissors, learning the months in order, and writing. He's doing great with writing his name and we have been trying to focus on writing all letters. In true Aiden fashion, the one day he wanted to write his 3 cousin's names. I was busy and couldn't sit with him, but that didn't stop him and he asked me to spell their names and he proceeded to try and write each name. I could believe how well he did all on his own- I'm so proud!
