OBX 2012

In August, we took our annual trip to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. We were joined by our good friends Frank and Nicole. This is our 3rd year vacationing together and despite having two kids now, everyone seem to have a good time- LOL. I will say vacationing with a preschooler and a baby is definitley a lot different then just one kid. I was so exhausted each night

We had a great weather - the sun was warm, but it wasn't blazing hot. Some days were overcast, but I think it only rained one day - for 20 mins.

The car ride this year was definitley interesting. Aiden did great, as usual, and this year was the first time he was potty trained and he amazed me. No stops were needed on the way down and only one on the way home. Jonathan was a handful, though. Since the day he's been born, he has not been a big fan of the carseat; just not a car baby. The 7 hour drive was definitley a test - for the whole family. JP was just not happy the first few hours of the car ride down, but did okay for the rest of the trip. The ride home, though, he cried pretty much the whole way - unless he was eating or sleeping! Here's hoping next year goes smoother for him.

I'm not sure what Aiden liked most: the pool, the beach or the ocean. He's definitley a shore baby! He was digging in the sand and jumping the waves, but the pool seemed to be where he had the most fun. He was doing great with his floaties this year and it was nice not to have to be on top of him all the time. He swam all around the pool, was jumping in, and playing. It was great!

JP was definitley unsure of the beach/ocean and pool experience. At the beach, we put him in the sand which he didn't seem to mind. He seemed ok with the ocean, too. He just watched Aiden jump around, but he never knew what to make of it. He didn't last long at the beach. He was too hot and just not a fan of his beach tent. In the pool, he did a lot better and started splashing around. It was definitley a learning experience for him.

The adults had a great time too - we spent a lot of time in the pool this year and ate like kings & queens. As usual the guys cooked for us and it was fantastic. Keith aged steaks, we had a seafood gumbo, and a grilled turkey.

All in all it was a wonderful week...till Friday. Keith woke up not feeling well and it got worse as the morning progressed. He had bad stomach pains and when he tried to get up he was dizzy and weak. We ended our trip with a visit from paramedics, an ambulance ride for Keith, and a 7 hour tour of OBX's hospital (gorgeous $$) which was an hour away from where we stayed. Thankfully Keith was okay. He had a viral infection and severe dehydration. We were also fortunate that Frank and Nicole took care of Aiden for us and gave him a great end to his vacation.

We're looking forward to another summer down there next year, but hopefully no excitement (like hurricanes, car accidents, hospital trips) this time!
